Summary- In an article called "Earth is COOKED: Warming oceans, melting ice caps, and a super volcano," it exemplifies how "humans seem to be the most destructive species on the planet." But why? This is because of "our carbon-emitting habits" that are proving that this theory is right. We, humans, are destroying the only thing that we have left, this planet.
- Hurricanes have been proving that the earth is getting destroyed. "This year's hurricane season... Ten consecutive storms have reached hurricane status in the Atlantic during the 2017 season," the article explains. - The article also talks about how President Donald "Dump," as the article calls him, "won't consider global warming as a threat to humanity." Unfortunately, Donald trump is ignoring it. - According to the article, "we are losing our ice caps. They are melting and appear as if they were never there." But, why is this occurring? This is happening because of global warming which explains that the "earth is cooking." - Also, the NASA explains how "in the next several decades, storm surges and high tides could combine with sea level rise and land subsidence to further increase flooding in many regions." In other words, sea levels will rise in the future causing catastrophic problems in many land areas. - Another problem has been added to the earth, the supervolcano, found below the Yellowstone Park, is "expected to blow sooner than expected." |

Key Terms- Global warming: A gradual increase in the overall temperature of the earth's atmosphere generally attributed to the greenhouse effect caused by increased levels of carbon dioxide, chlorofluorocarbons, and other pollutants.
- Melting: Also called fusion, is a physical process that results in the phase transition of a substance from a solid to a liquid. - Super volcano: Any volcano capable of producing a volcanic eruption with an ejecta volume greater than 1,000 km3 (240 cu mi). This is thousands of times larger than normal volcanic eruptions. - Hurricane: A storm with a violent wind, in particular a tropical cyclone in the Caribbean. - Catastrophe: An event causing great and often sudden damage or suffering; a disaster. - Polynya: A stretch of open water surrounded by ice, especially in Arctic seas. |

We, humans, are destroying the earth. But how are we creating such problem? It is occurring because of how ignorant we became. The fact that we are ignoring volcanoes eruptions, melting ice, and all the hurricanes that have been happening for the past years are the causes of such catastrophe. The polar ice caps have been helping the earth to maintain an accurate temperature, unfortunately, the melting of such polar ice caps have increased the rate of global warming. The loss of ice means that more heat is getting absorbed. By using albedo, a measure that explains the ability of the earth's surface to reflects sunlight, we can determine that when there is a decrease of ice, the ice melts will get darker and it will absorb more heat. In other words, the planet will receive more heat if less sunlight is displayed. The increase of melting ice also means a rise in sea level which will create many difficulties such as; contamination of water, a decrease of wildlife population, and it will hurt the economy severely. Individuals should also consider volcanoes eruptions and its impacts on the earth. They not only have an effect on land and water, but it also has one in the air. It affects land because the lava that comes from a volcano creates a layer of a hard rock which makes the land unusable since there is not a type of plant that will be able to grow. It also affects air and water because it creates contamination and pollution.
